Men In Tutus Looks Fantastic. Take A Look At The Trocks by Ashton Field
Just as the title would imply, Men in Tutus is a comedy show that is put on by the Trocks. This show features an all male cast, dressed as any other ballet company would dress their cast, in tutus. This hilarious show features exquisite dancing, great music and plenty of comedy. This show even comes complete with the most outrageous names that could have ever been created for the individuals in the show being announced before the show. To be fair, Trocks is not the real name of the dance company. It is more like a nickname with the real name of this company being Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo. The ballet form is Russian and the dancers are all male, point shoe trained.
Tutus are worn by all “female” roles and traditional men’s garb is worn by the men playing men in the show. While this was once a simple joke company that men joined once they were too old for the traditional male roles, this is now one of the premier dance companies for men to join straight out of the academies. Men in Tutus itself is a work of art that features a variety of different dances and plots combining excellence in dance with comedy. This is one of the longest running shows from Trocks and features some of the best tutu wearing men in the world. The dancers themselves make it a point to express vanity and brilliance, much as people expect most ballet dancers to be. This is done on a grand scale though with some characters even falling as they try to focus on their own grandness rather than the actual dance. This is all planned, but the way it is done gives it almost an impromptu look.
As any dancer would agree with, it is not only the moves and the tutus that make the show. The Trocks have mastered the art of facial expressions that convey their thoughts on the dance floor, or at least what they want to express to the audience. This includes narrowing of the eyes, looks of frustration and anger as a dancer does something that steals the spotlight from the others. There are even perfectly timed kicks and moves that block other dancers or appear to make contact with the other dancers to show off this vanity and envy on the dance stage. All of this combined with perfect technique helps to create a show that is unforgettable for its beauty and comedy.
